Louis Vuitton Ombré Nomade Alternative: Oud and Amber for Less
The VESPR Team
Ombré Nomade is Louis Vuitton's dark, resinous oud. Smoky, sweet, a little leathery. The fragrance version of a cashmere coat.
It is $455 for 3.4 oz on Louis Vuitton's US site.
Here is what makes it smell the way it does, and how to wear that amber and oud profile for a fraction of the price.
What Ombré Nomade smells like
- The opening: a jammy raspberry note over something spicy and resinous.
- The heart: rose and incense. Smoky, a little sacred.
- The base: oud, amber and benzoin. Dark, sweet, warm, almost leathery.
It is dense and it lasts. It is the smell most people file under "expensive" without knowing why.
Why people look for an alternative
- Price. $455 is a serious price for a bottle of fragrance, and a lot to spend before you know it suits you.
- Intensity. It is rich. A little goes a long way, and it is easy to overdo.
Your options
1. A decant or sample
Before committing $455, many fragrance lovers buy a small decant to live with the scent for a week.
2. An inspired-by perfume
Several fragrance houses make amber-oud perfumes inspired by Ombré Nomade. Some are good, many are loud. Read reviews from people who have worn both.
3. A scented body butter built on the same structure
This is what we make. ONYX is a body butter built around the Ombré Nomade structure: saffron and raspberry, rose and incense, oud and amber, carried in butter instead of alcohol.
ONYX vs. Ombré Nomade: what carries over, and what doesn't
What carries over: the amber and oud base. That is where the two sit closest.
What is different: the raspberry and saffron opening is softer. There is no alcohol to throw it.
How it wears: ONYX is the densest of our four scents. It does not fill a room. It stays with you, warm and close, all evening.
We are not claiming ONYX is Ombré Nomade. It is our interpretation of that structure, in a body butter.

How to wear ONYX
- Use less than you would with other scents. Half a scoop is a real dose.
- When. Evenings, cold weather, the nights you want to be remembered.
- Under Ombré Nomade. If you own the bottle, ONYX underneath lets you use a single spray instead of three.

FAQ
Is ONYX a dupe of Ombré Nomade?
No. It is a body butter inspired by the Ombré Nomade structure, not a copy of the perfume. The amber and oud base is closest. The fruity-spicy opening is softer.
Is ONYX too strong for the office?
It is the richest of our four. For the office, use a small amount, or choose ROWAN, which is quieter.
How long does ONYX last on skin?
Eight hours. If it is gone before then, keep the jar and we refund you.
What if I don't like it?
Tell us within 30 days. We send you a different scent and you keep the first. One swap per order.
