Body Butter for Men: What It Is, Why It Works, How to Use It
The VESPR Team
Most men own a lotion. Few own a body butter.
That is a missed opportunity, especially if you wear fragrance.
Here is what body butter is, how it differs from what you use now, and how to use it without feeling greasy.
What is body butter?
Body butter is a rich moisturizer built around plant butters: shea, cocoa, mango, coconut.
Traditional body butters are almost pure fat. Dense, heavy, slow to absorb.
Modern whipped body butters are emulsions. They blend water, humectants and butters into a lighter texture that sinks in faster.
Ours is the second kind. Water, glycerin and hydroxyethyl urea do the hydrating. Shea, cocoa and coconut butters condition the skin and carry the fragrance.
We publish all 27 ingredients, not just the flattering half.
Why men should use body butter
Dry skin is the default, not the exception
Hot showers, soap, heating, air conditioning. All of them strip moisture from skin.
Tight skin after the shower. Dull or flaky shins. Rough elbows. That is what it looks like.
It holds scent better than bare skin
Fragrance lasts longer on moisturized skin. A scented body butter does both jobs at once: it moisturizes, and it is the fragrance.
It is one step
No serums. No routine. One scoop after the shower.
How to use body butter
- Right after the shower. Pat dry, don't rub. Skin should still be warm and a little damp.
- Take a scoop. About the size of a walnut covers arms, chest and neck. Warm it between your palms for a few seconds.
- Apply where you need moisture and where you want scent. Chest, shoulders, arms, neck. Elbows and shins if they are dry.
- Give it a minute. A good whipped butter absorbs in about 60 seconds. Then get dressed.
How much is too much?
If your skin is still shiny after two minutes, you used too much.
Next time, use less and spread it further.
Where to apply a scented body butter
Where you put it changes how the scent behaves.
- Chest and neck. The warmest areas, and the closest to anyone near you. The best spots for scent.
- Arms and shoulders. Good for moisture. They leave a light trail when you move.
- Hands. Fine for moisture, but you wash them often. The scent won't stay there.
Body butter vs. lotion vs. cream
Short version: lotion is the lightest, body butter the richest, cream sits in between.
We break it down in body butter vs. lotion for men.
Can body butter replace cologne?
For many men, on most days, yes.
A scented body butter does not project across a room like a spray. It stays closer. People notice it when they are near you, which is usually who you want to notice it.
On nights when you want more, wear both. The butter underneath makes the spray last longer. See how to make cologne last longer.
How to choose a body butter for men
- Check the net weight, on the jar. Ours is 200 g / 7.05 oz, printed on the jar itself.
- Read the ingredient list. If a brand won't show you the full list, ask why.
- Pick a scent you would actually wear. If it is scented, it is your fragrance for the day. Choose it like one.
- Look for a guarantee. Scent is personal. A brand that trusts its product lets you swap.

FAQ
Is body butter good for men's skin?
Yes. Men's skin dries out like anyone's. A body butter restores moisture and leaves skin softer, especially after hot showers.
Is body butter greasy?
Traditional, pure-fat butters can be. Whipped body butters absorb much faster. If it still feels greasy, use less.
Can I use body butter on my face?
We don't recommend it. Body butters are made for body skin, which is thicker. Use a moisturizer made for the face.
What if I'm prone to breakouts on my chest or back?
Patch-test on a small area for a few days before using it all over.
Try one. Four VESPR scents, 200 g each, eight hours on skin, or keep the jar and we refund you.
